JLPT N4 point summary (Grammar)

If you study Japanese language, you may hear about JLPT once at least and target as one of your goal.

JLPT is short for Japanese Language Proficiency Test, 日本語能力試験にほんごのうりょくしけん and recognized passport to show your Japanese language ability. You may take test in July and December. 

Level is categorized from N1 to N5 and N5 is easiest entry level.

I have some friend studying for JLPT N4 level.

In this post, I will summarize points you should master for N4 in grammar area.

Required level

At first, JLPT official website explains about requirement to pass N4 test as bellow;

 

The ability to understand basic Japanese.

  • One is able to read and understand passages on familiar daily topics written in basic vocabulary and kanji.
  • One is able to listen and comprehend conversations encountered in daily life and generally follow their contents, provided that they are spoken slowly.”

Compared with N5, there are more kanji and grammar points even it’s basic Japanese level.

JLPT does not officially disclose points to be studied now. However, they did until 2004.

These are points you should master for N4 level but this does not mean I cannot guarantee you will pass test if you completely master these points.
