Particle⑧ – “ね(ne)” and “よ(yo)”

Hi, Leo Sensei dayo.

In this session, we will study particles “ね(ne)” and “よ(yo)”.

Just add these particles at the end of sentence. Very simple.

 

“ね(ne)”

Agreement (or confirmation)

The particle “ne” at the end of sentence shows that speaker seeks fro agreement or confirmation from listener about the statement.

 

Ex a)

きょうは暑(あつ)いです

(kyou wa atsui desu ne

“ね(ne)” shows that speaker seeks for agreement of statement(it’s hot today) from listener. In English “It’s hot today, isn’t it?”

 

“よ(yo)”

Emphasis

The particle “よ(yo)” at the end of sentence shows that speaker has conviction about the statement besed on speaker’s experience or something.

 

Ex b)

あのラーメン屋(や)はいつも混(こ)んでます

(ano ramenya wa itsumo konde masu yo

“よ(yo)” shows that speaker has conviction about the statement(the ramen shop is always crowded) . In English, “I am sure  that the ramen shop is always crowded”.

 

Points

“ね(ne)”  is used for Agreement (or confirmation).

“よ(yo)” has meaning of Emphasis.
